Thalassemia awareness seminar
University Institute of Medical Lab Technology (FAHS) arranged an awareness seminar about Thalassemia on 10 April, 2014 at Defense Road Campus, The University of Lahore.  Thalassemia is an inherited condition affecting the blood. It is one of the most common genetic disorders in Pakistan. Cause is widely accepted custom of inter-marriages amongst close family relatives and members of the same caste or tribe. Carrier rate of ß-thal is 5.6% in Pakistan.  In a large population (181 million) 10 million ß-thal carriers creates a huge burden on the health sector and is a major public health concern. So, need of hour is to create more and more awareness in people regarding this issue.

Special lecture were given by Sameen Amjed (HOD, UIMLT), Dr.Naeem Ashraf     ( Asst.Prof ), Junaid Jafar & M Atif  Lecturers of UIMLT Department. Guest lecturer was given by Dr.Naveed Tahir he was representing Punjab Thalassaemia prevention program (PTPP) he highlighted the efforts of PTPP till date in Punjab. Shields and certificates were distributed to organizers and lecturers at the end of academic session.
