UOL had organized an Awareness Seminar on “Tuberculosis prevalence, prevention and Laboratory Aspects”


On world tuberculosis day 24th March 2013 W.H.O announced new world ranking of tuberculosis burden. According to new ratings of W.H.O the Pakistan ranked 5th in world for carrying tuberculosis patients burden. Despite the fact that WHO in its efforts to control TB, declared it a global emergency in 1993, TB still continues to account for the largest cause of mortality by any infectious agent worldwide. The University Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology arranged an awareness seminar entitled “Tuberculosis prevalence, prevention and laboratory aspects”. The Purpose of this seminar was to create awareness regarding TB.

On 30th May 2013 Prof. Dr. Saleem Shuja, the rector, the University of Lahore was chief guest on the occasion. The seminar was started in the university auditorium with the recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat-e-Rasool (SW). The speakers include Miss Zunaira Rao, Microbiologist W.H.O national T.B control program, Mr Hafeez ullah, Medical Technologist W.H.O national TB control program and Miss Sameen Amjed Acting Head of Department University Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology. All speakers delivered informative and valuable state of the art lectures on topic. The lectures were followed by Question/ Answer session to involve participants and listeners in activity. Prof Dr. Amir Gilani Dean Faculty of Allied Health Sciences admires the efforts of University Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology for arranging such informative seminar on tuberculosis. At the end of seminar Rector of the University of Lahore distributed shields and certificates to speakers and organizing committee of seminar.
